Trek to Lohagad – Bhaje Caves – 7/10/2018

With permission of Hon’ble Shri. Ramsheth Thakur, Chairman, JBSP Sanstha, the Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law had organized its First Trek to Lohagad and Bhaje Caves near Village Malavali, Tal. Maval, Dist. Pune on 7th October 2018. Dr. Mrs. Shitala Gavand, Principal of College, took efforts for planning and organizing this Trek.
The journey started from the College at 6:00 a.m. After having breakfast at Lonawala, we proceeded to Lohagadwadi via Bhangarwadi Road. Lohagad Fort rises to an elevation of 1,033 m (3,389 ft.) above sea level.
Reaching at the top early in the morning (10:00 a.m.) gave sufficient time to see the entire fort. Top of the fort gives the opportunity to witness a magnificent view of Pawana Lake surrounded by Fort Visapur, Fort Tikona and Fort Tung. At the top there are two beautiful lakes, Mahadev Temple, a dargha, Laxmi Kothi – a big cave and the most beautiful is Vinchu Kata – the famous scorpion sting.
After returning to the base of the fort, participants had delicious lunch at hotel Lohagad Nisarg owned by Mr. Somnath Bhalerao and then move ahead to Baje Caves, a group of 22 rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BC. The caves are 400 feet above the village of Bhaje. Amongst various caves, the most prominent excavation is its chaityagrha.
After returning back to village Bhaje, participants had chilled buttermilk and lemon juice and then left the village at 4 p.m. and reached back to college at 6:00 p.m.
Adv. Shreekant Gavand, Addl. Public Prosecutor, High Court, Bombay extended his assistance for the safe execution of this trek.
