Khandeshwar Police Station Visit

As an important aspect of the Practical Training, BLS 3rd Year students of Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel visited the Khandewshwar Police Station, Khanda Colony, New Panvel on 18th October 2023, for an educational and fascinating experience. The purpose of the hands-on training was to provide the enthusiastic group of almost fifty-five students a better understanding of day-to-day working of Police Station.

This visit was organised by subject teacher Asst. Prof. Dr. Kranti J. Bhovate, Asst. Prof. Sagar Devghare and   Excursion committee In-charge Asst. Prof. Aparajita Gupta under the guidance of in-charge principal of Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel Mrs. Sanavi Deshmukh Madam.

The visit began with an informative briefing from the station’s officers, who welcomed the students and introduced them to the various aspects of their roles and responsibilities. They explained the structure of the police department, the hierarchy, and the critical functions they perform in maintaining law and order. This session allowed the students to gain valuable insights into the complexities and challenges faced by law enforcement.

The students were then taken on a tour of the police station, where they had the opportunity to witness first-hand the various departments, including the reception, woman help cell, the evidence storage area. They also provided valuable insights into the chain of custody, the importance of maintaining evidence integrity, and the procedures followed during arrests and detention.

Furthermore, the students engaged in meaningful discussion with the Senior Police Inspector Mr. Chandrakant Landge, asking questions and seeking clarification on legal procedures, human rights, and the various challenges in policing. This interactive session in which the students also engaged in a Q&A with the officer, discussing the challenges they face, the importance of the rule of law, and the delicate balance between maintaining public safety and protecting individual rights.

The BLS 3rd year students of BCT Law College’s visit to Khandewshwar Police Station proved to be an eye-opening experience, helping them connect their classroom knowledge to real-world legal practice. It fostered a deeper appreciation for the role of law enforcement agencies and the complexities of the justice system. Such practical exposure is invaluable for budding lawyers as they continue their legal education and eventually transition into the professional world of law.
