Inauguration of 2nd Late Shri. Janardan Bhagat Memorial Lecture Series, by Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik, Judge, High Court, Bombay

Under the guidance of Shri. Ramsheth Thakur, Chairman, Janardan Bhagat Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha and Shri. Y. T. Deshmukh, Vice Chairman, Janardan Bhagat Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha, Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel, organized 2nd Late Shri. Janardan Bhagat Memorial Lecture Series. Dr. Mrs. Shitala S. Gavand, Principal, took initiative for organizing this Lecture Series.

Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik, Judge, High Court, Bombay inaugurated this lecture series on 22nd February 2020.

After garlanding the photo frames of Devi Saraswati, Late Smt. Bhagubai Changu Thakur, Late Shri. Changu Kana Thakur and Late Shri. Janardan Bhagat, the lecture series was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik, Judge, High Court, Bombay by lightening of the lamp. As per the latest G. R. of the State Government, the programme started with national anthem.           

Dr. Mrs. Shitala S. Gavand, Principal felicitated the Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik, Judge, High Court, Bombay with shawl, shrifal, sapling and momento and statue of lord Ganesha. Shri. Girish Kulkarni, Senior Advocate, High Court, Bombay was felicitated with sapling by Asst. Professor Mrs. Vrushali Wankhede, Mr. Shreekant Gavand, Addl. Public Prosecutor, was felicitated with sapling by student Ms. Saba Khan and Dr. Mrs. Shitala Gavand was felicitated with sapling by student Mr. Suyash Bartake.

Thereafter Principal Dr. Mrs. Shitala Gavand, delivered welcome address and introduced the chief guest and other dignitaries and she explained the concept and importance of this lecture series and said this fest of knowledge would be helpful to the students for expanding horizons of knowledge. She said that the presence of Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik, Judge, High Court, Bombay in our college is itself inspiring, as he is totally devoted towards his work. 

The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik, Judge, High Court, Bombay while inaugurating this lecture series delivered lecture on the topic “Criminal Law – Aspects of Criminal Litigations” He briefly explained various penal provisions and how modern development has brought various changes in modus operendi involved in commission of crime. He explained various theories of punishment with special reference to the criteria for showing leniency and circumstances attracting death penalty. He also pointed out various rights available to the accused, cases based on direct and indirect evidence, concept of appreciation of evidence and procedure involved in appellate litigation.

He advised the students to work in trial court first to gain actual experience of trial procedure and while giving last word of advice, he asked the students to give attention towards learning English language, as same is atmost necessary to understand the judgments of higher courts and at the same time it is necessary to improve skill of public speaking.

 Thereafter during question and answer session, Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik gave answers to the questions asked by the students.

At this event Hon’ble Shri. Justice Prakash D. Naik also gave certificates of merit to the first three rank holders in two academic competitions i.e. Second Intra College Moot Court Competition and Second Intra College Drafting Competition.  

Asst. Prof. Ms. Shruti Pote, hosted the programme and proposed vote of thanks and the programme concluded with national song.

In this lecture series, lecture of Shri. Ram Apte, Senior Counsel, High Court, Bombay on the topic “Fundamental Rights Under the Constitution of India & Aspects of Reasonable Restrictions” is scheduled on 23/02/2019 at 9:30 am, lecture of Shri. Girish Kulkarni, Senior Advocate, High Court, Bombay on the topic “Art of Cross Examination” is scheduled on 23/10/2018 at 11:00 am and lecture of Mrs. Mandakini Chopade, A.P.I., Crime Branch, Navi Mumbai, on the topic “Cyber Offences – Detecting the Crime & Care to be taken” is scheduled on 24/02/2020 at 11 a.m.
